Tanawat Wansom (EMBA 2001) - Life at the Top at MCOT

Mr. Tanawat Wansom is a successful Sasin Alumnus who is  noticeabley humble. MySasin was surprised that he could greet us with  a  refreshing  smile after a long busy day as the New Year holidays approached.

“It’s been  4 months since I was appointed as the new chief of MCOT, and I spent the first 3 months studying the organization and gathering useful information. Only then could I come up with MCOT’s strategy for the next 5 years.“

He did a SWOT analysis and created a plan for  remedying the organization’s weak points. One of the changes is introducing  direct communication between him and the HR Department, whichin his eyes is the backbone of the organization. “Good media always come from creative employees.”   He also mentioned that he has to report his business activities to the Board and Stock Exchange of Thailand because MCOT is a listed company.

“What  is   MCOT’s most   distinctive activity?”, MySasin asked. “MCOT serves every media channel, such as online-TV, cable TV and the  developing mobile-TV segment which will be broadcasted via cellular phones. A good network with strong alliances such as TRUE and Channel 3 is essential. Furthermore,  “TVAsian Channel” is being broadcast in Thailand for the first time. MCOT’s target is to be the leader in integrated creative media in Asia.”, said  Mr. Tanawat.

When Mysasin.com asked about work vision, the  MCOT President answered “ Doing remarkable working, and working very  hard  at it, being adaptable to any situation. I let our staff know why we have to work fast. We can’t fix our working hours because  media are working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And as we have many important partners, such as Grammy, WorkPoint or RS; MCOT has to take the role of a strong leader in development. In addition, I follow King Bhumiphol’s working strategy which is “Suffiiciency Economy” and Dharma as my working philosophy. MCOT uses “Sufficiency Economy ” in our  5- year  strategic plan  to push our organization. We will expand and communicate the good results of the “Sufficiency Economy” to children and youth via creative media. We always invite honored guest speakers, such as Dr. Sumet Tantivejkul, to talk about “ Sufficiency Economy” to our staff and related units.”

Mr. Tanawat emphasized that his knowledge from Sasin strongly helped him to work as the President of MCOT. He gained excellent knowledge in management and business from the world-class MBA institute. Moreover, he could expand his network though his Sasin friends and seniors which is important in his job.At the end of our conversation, Mr. Tanawat said he would be  pleased to support Sasin in several things. Mysasin.com thanked him and felt very proud of  this famous Sasin Alumni.
